Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

(1) Is Turkey safe for my family?

A question that is always being asked is "is Turkey safe?". Any issues that Turkey faces are confined to the Turkish/Syrian border which is hundreds of miles away. I have always been fascinated by Eastern Turkey and The Silk Route. In April 2018 I visited Mardin (Approximately 25 Kilometres from the Syrian border, apart from lots of security I saw no issues.

Turkey has always represented excellent value for money and this is why hundreds of thousands of "Brits" visit each year.

(2) Are you an agency or do you own the villas?

Villa Han is privately owned by 4 of us - 2 British, 1 Turk and a New Zealander! We use the trade name Premium Turkish Villas just to help market both villas under the same umbrella. Villa Gelincik was recently sold.

(3) I have read about possible scams, do your villas really exist?

Yes they do! We started renting out Villa Gelincik as a holiday home in 2010 and Villa Han in 2013. Between the two villas we have had 250+ groups pass through the villas during that time. There are many independent reviews on TripAdvisor so please look for yourself.

You can call us, email us, skype us, even visit us prior to your decision - anything that helps to put your mind at ease!

(4) How and who do I pay?

We advertise widely and not all channels operate in the same way.

With Homeaway, Homelidays, TripAdvisor and AirBnB - these websites take full payment from you when you book one of our villas. They charge a fee to both you and us for this service.

If you contact us personally or via other websites like The Holiday Let or FeWo-direkt, we can talk directly. In this instance, when you are ready to book, we take a 25% deposit to guarantee your preferred dates. You can pay this into our registered company business bank account in Turkey or in the UK.

 (5) I haven't stayed in a villa before, what do I need to know?

When you book one of the villas, you get the whole house at your disposal. The only time this may change is if for a small group (2-3 people) we have agreed to close off some of the bedrooms for a reduced price.

Once you have paid your deposit, we will email you our Villa Information Booklet. It it packed full of information about how to get to the villa, local places to visit, restaurant recommendations and historical sites. Also very practical information about the villa - key location, check-in and check-out, and how to work everything from the washing machine to the TV and emergency contact details.

All bedroom and bathroom linen/towels are supplied by us. Bedroom linen will be changed after 5-7 nights for bookings longer than a week, towels will be changed during the week.

Pool/beach towels are also supplied by us.

The villas are supplied with all general cleaning supplies (washing powder, fabric softener, dish washing liquid, dishwasher tablets, cloths, toilet paper etc)

Also basic kitchen supplies (spices, salt/pepper, small amount of olive oil, coffee perculator filters, cling film and foil).

We also pride ourselves on the kitchens being very well stocked with utensils, pots and pans and sharp knives!

(6) Which airport and how long is the drive?

Dalaman Airport is closest, with Bodrum/Milas being the next best option.

From Dalaman Airport, the drive to Villa Han is about 2 hours. To Villa Gelincik, a further 20 minutes. For Bodrum Airport add another 15 minutes for both Villas.

(7) Do I need a hire car?

Around 80% of our guests, in both villas, hire a car for some or all of their holiday. It's not strictly necessary, but in our opinion it is a good option. There are many places to visit and sights to see so we feel you may miss those without transport.

Villa Han comes supplied with 5 adult bicycles which you can also use around the village.

(8) What currency is best to use and are Credit Cards OK?

The local currency (Turkish Lira) is of course best. Before arriving to Turkey, have a small amount of Lira available (e.g 200 TL) - this will help with the purchase of small items on arrival, airport parking fee's in the case of hire cars etc.

Don't buy too much Lira from back home as the rate will be much better here in Turkey.

In the Marmaris area, £sterling, euros and $US are widely accepted (in that order of preference).

Credit Cards are in common use and widely accepted, However, it is always good policy to check with the restaurant/shop owner etc before you eat or attempt to purchase.

(9) How private are the Villa pools?

Villa Han is located at the back of Orhaniye Village, so it's quiet and secluded by this very nature. We have only 1 neighbour, who does have a window that looks towards half of the pool. We planted and trained a grape vine and a bougainvillea across this view. For the 2018 season, these plants 90% closed the gap. In 2019, we expect it to be fully private.

(10) What are the responsibilities of the guest?

(a) When you arrive to a villa, if anything is amiss please report it as soon as possible. The sooner you tell us, the sooner we can resolve any issues.

(b) Please report any breakages. Normal wear and tear is totally acceptable, but any breakages/spillages/marks etc may need attention so that the next guest after you is not disadvantaged. We may charge for breakages etc if it is deemed necessary.

(c) There is no need for you to strip the beds on departure.

(d) Even though both villas come supplied with a care-taker/cleaner, you do need to leave the villas in respectable condition on departure. Any excessive cleaning required may be deducted from your security bond.

(e) Enjoy yourselves, swim lots, eat lots, have bbq's, daytime naps!
